A Brand New Old Wisdom

Wisdom.jpg

I pray this short passage from Proverbs is an encouragement to you this week. Proverbs 11:11–13 says,

“Upright citizens are good for a city and make it prosper,
but the talk of the wicked tears it apart.
It is foolish to belittle one’s neighbor;
a sensible person keeps quiet.
A gossip goes around telling secrets,
but those who are trustworthy can keep a confidence.”

It’s fantastic to see 3000-year-old wisdom speaking brand new life into our modern world. Its relevance for how to live in the midst of protests, riots, a pandemic, schools reopening in some way, and upcoming elections is astounding.The very next verse is equally as relevant. Proverbs 11:14 says,

“Without wise leadership, a nation falls; there is safety in having many advisers.”

As we continue to navigate turbulent times, remaining focused on the truths of God’s word can center and ground us beyond the circumstances of our day.

One last thing. Forum is blessed with a wise and Christ-centered leadership team. Two key components of this team are our elders and deacons. This week we open up nominations for individuals to serve in these important roles. At myforum.me you can find scriptures that layout qualifications for these church leadership positions as well as the nomination form. Nominations are due by August 30, 2020.

I hope you have had a chance to save your seat for this Sunday, and I look forward to seeing you soon!
